Use the difficulty
By pure chance I caught Michael Caine being interviewed by Parky at me mums this evening. Amongst an absolute blizzard of wonderfull stories and when asked about his philosophy of life he said it was to "use the difficulty".
As a young actor he was waiting for his entrance. During the preceding, improvised scene somebody threw a chair and blocked the door he was to enter through.
Caine: "I can't get in", to which the director replied "Use the difficulty, if it's a comedy fall over the chair, if it's drama smash it to bits, .. use the difficulty". Yes.
He capped that by saying that it's good to avoid them when possible as well.
